Snorkelling at the Great Barrier
Reef
Not every one wants to dive when
they visit the Barrier Reef on our cruises. The Great
Barrier Reef is one of the world's most accessible
reefs and offers excellent snorkelling. You will be
supervised at all times by suitably trained staff,
however, you should be able to swim and have a reasonable
fitness level as snorkelling can be a strenuous activity.
You will find that everyone from small children to
grandmothers will be able to snorkel to some degree.
Most
of the day trips offer snorkelling instruction and
include a guided tour as well. Some even take you to
sandy cays or islands where you can walk straight in
off the beach instead of jumping from a boat. Sometimes
buoys are placed short distances from
each other and joined together with safety lines so
that you can snorkel from float to float and rest when
you need to. Flotation devices such as buoyancy jackets
and coral viewing boards are generally available for
less experienced customers.
